Composition
Clindamycin Phosphate 1% w/w + Nicotinamide 4% w/w
This is a topical anti-acne preparation.
- Clindamycin phosphate 1% — a topical antibiotic that reduces acne-causing bacteria and inflammation.
- Nicotinamide (niacinamide) 4% — has anti-inflammatory properties and can help reduce redness and irritation associated with acne.
Uses
It is mainly used for inflammatory acne vulgaris, including:
- Red pimples
- Inflamed bumps
- Pustules
- Mild-to-moderate inflammatory acne
It is less useful for blackheads and whiteheads when used alone.
How to Use
- Cleanse the affected area gently and pat dry.
- Apply a thin layer to the acne-affected area as prescribed, rather than applying a thick layer only to individual pimples.
- Wash your hands before and after application.
- Avoid the eyes, lips, inside of the nose, and other mucous membranes.
- Do not apply to cuts, wounds, or severely irritated skin.
Use consistently for the prescribed duration. Improvement may take several weeks.
Possible Side Effects
Common effects include:
- Dryness
- Redness
- Burning or stinging
- Itching
- Skin irritation
Stop using it and contact your doctor if you develop severe irritation or an allergic reaction.
Rarely, topical clindamycin can be associated with severe or persistent diarrhoea/colitis, because some medicine can be absorbed into the body.
Precautions & Warnings
Tell your doctor if you have:
- A history of inflammatory bowel disease
- Previous antibiotic-associated colitis
- An allergy to clindamycin or lincomycin
Avoid prolonged or unnecessary use of topical antibiotics because it can contribute to antibiotic resistance. Dermatologists may combine acne treatment with benzoyl peroxide to reduce the development of resistance.
Avoid getting the preparation in your eyes. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using it. If breastfeeding, avoid applying it to the breast/nipple area where the infant could ingest it.
Storage
Store at room temperature away from excessive heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date.
Important Safety Information
This medicine is intended for external use only and is primarily for inflammatory acne. Do not use it as a general antibiotic cream for cuts or other skin infections unless specifically prescribed.
