What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including some infections of the throat, ears, sinuses, lungs, urinary tract and skin. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from building their protective cell wall, which kills the bacteria or prevents them from multiplying.

How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Swallow the tablet with water, preferably with food, and do not take more or less than prescribed. The dose may need adjustment in kidney problems.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, headache and rash may occur.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, cephalosporins or other beta-lactam antibiotics unless specifically advised by a doctor. Tell the doctor about kidney disease or a history of severe antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek medical advice for severe or persistent diarrhoea, breathing difficulty, facial swelling or a widespread rash.
