What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime proxetil is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, such as infections of the throat, lungs, sinuses, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It stops susceptible bacteria from forming their protective cell wall, which kills the bacteria and helps clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Take it by mouth exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Complete the full prescribed course, even if symptoms improve. Do not share this medicine or use leftover antibiotics.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, indigestion and headache. Skin rash may also occur.

Precautions
Inform the doctor about any allergy to cefpodoxime, penicillin or other cephalosporin antibiotics. Tell the doctor if there is kidney disease or a history of severe antibiotic-related diarrhoea. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea. Use only when prescribed, as unnecessary antibiotic use can lead to resistance.
