What is it used for?
Ciprofloxacin infusion is an antibiotic used in hospitals to treat serious bacterial infections when treatment through a vein is needed. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by blocking enzymes they need to copy and repair their DNA.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given slowly into a vein by a healthcare professional. The dose and treatment length depend on the type and severity of infection and kidney function. Complete the prescribed course unless the doctor advises otherwise.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, headache, dizziness, rash, and pain or irritation at the infusion site.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about allergies to ciprofloxacin or other quinolone antibiotics, kidney problems, heart rhythm problems, tendon disorders, seizures, nerve problems, or myasthenia gravis. Seek medical help for tendon pain or swelling, severe or persistent diarrhoea, numbness or tingling, severe mood or nerve changes, palpitations, or a serious allergic reaction. Use in children, pregnancy, or breastfeeding only when specifically prescribed. It should be administered under medical supervision.
