What is it used for?
This medicine is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes.

How does it work?
Dapagliflozin helps the kidneys remove excess glucose through urine. Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and helps the body use insulin better.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, preferably with food to reduce stomach upset. Drink enough fluids unless a doctor has advised fluid restriction. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, increased urination, genital fungal infections and urinary tract infections. Low blood sugar may occur, especially when used with insulin or certain other diabetes medicines.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems, dehydration, recurrent genital or urinary infections, or heavy alcohol use. Seek urgent medical help for severe weakness, vomiting, stomach pain, breathing difficulty, confusion, or unusual tiredness, as these may indicate a serious reaction. The medicine may need to be stopped temporarily during prolonged fasting, severe illness, dehydration or before some surgeries—follow medical advice. Tell the doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding.
