What is it used for?
Dapagliflozin is used to help control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is also prescribed for some adults with heart failure or chronic kidney disease, as directed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It helps the kidneys remove extra glucose and sodium from the body through urine. This lowers blood sugar and may reduce strain on the heart and kidneys.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and swallow the tablet with water, with or without food. Drink enough fluids unless a doctor has advised fluid restriction. Do not stop it without medical advice.

Common side effects
Passing urine more often, increased thirst, dizziness, dehydration, urinary tract infections, and genital fungal infections. Low blood sugar is more likely when used with insulin or certain other diabetes medicines.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney problems, low blood pressure, repeated urinary or genital infections, or planned surgery. Seek urgent medical help for severe nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, unusual tiredness, difficulty breathing, or confusion, as these may indicate diabetic ketoacidosis. It is generally not used for type 1 diabetes unless specifically directed by a specialist. Ask a doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
