What is it used for?
Dapagliflozin is mainly used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It may also be prescribed for certain adults with heart failure or chronic kidney disease, as decided by a doctor.

How does it work?
It helps the kidneys remove excess glucose from the blood through the urine. This medicine belongs to a group called SGLT2 inhibitors.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with or without food. Drink adequate fluids unless a doctor has advised fluid restriction. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Passing urine more often, increased thirst, dehydration, dizziness, urinary tract infection, and genital fungal infection. Low blood sugar is more likely when used with insulin or certain other diabetes medicines.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney problems, low blood pressure, dehydration, or medicines that increase urine output. Seek urgent medical help for nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, unusual tiredness, breathing difficulty, or confusion, as these may indicate ketoacidosis. It may need to be stopped temporarily during prolonged fasting, serious illness, or before surgery. Not usually used for type 1 diabetes. Discuss use during pregnancy or breastfeeding with a doctor.
