What is it used for?
Used along with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when treatment with other diabetes medicines is not enough. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes.

How does it work?
Dapagliflozin helps the kidneys remove excess glucose through urine. Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver, while sitagliptin helps the body release insulin and reduce glucose production after meals.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, preferably with food if advised, and at the same time each day. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Drink adequate fluids unless fluid restriction has been advised.

Common side effects
Increased urination, urinary or genital infections, nausea, diarrhoea, stomach upset, headache and dizziness. Low blood sugar is more likely when used with insulin or sulfonylurea medicines.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems, dehydration, recurrent urinary or genital infections, heart problems, or heavy alcohol use. Seek urgent medical help for severe nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, unusual tiredness or difficulty breathing, as these may indicate ketoacidosis or lactic acidosis. Kidney function should be checked regularly. Inform the doctor before surgery, prolonged fasting, or receiving contrast dye, and before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
