What is it used for?
Deflazacort is a corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation and control an overactive immune response in conditions such as autoimmune disorders, severe allergies and other inflammatory illnesses. The exact reason for use depends on the condition being treated.

How does it work?
It reduces the activity of substances that cause inflammation and suppresses excessive immune-system activity.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, preferably at the same time each day. Swallow the tablet with water. Do not change the dose or stop treatment suddenly unless advised by a doctor, especially if it has been used for a longer period.

Common side effects
Increased appetite, indigestion, weight gain, mood changes, difficulty sleeping, acne and swelling may occur, particularly with higher doses or longer treatment.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, stomach ulcers, glaucoma, liver or kidney problems, or any current infection. Corticosteroids can reduce the body's ability to fight infections; seek medical advice after exposure to chickenpox or measles. Avoid live vaccines unless specifically approved by a doctor. Long-term treatment may require monitoring and should not be stopped suddenly.
