What is it used for?
Dexlansoprazole is used to treat acid reflux (GERD), relieve heartburn, and help heal irritation or damage to the food pipe caused by stomach acid.

How does it work?
It reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach by blocking acid-producing proton pumps.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Swallow the modified-release capsule whole with water; do not crush or chew it. It may generally be taken with or without food. Do not change the dose or duration without medical advice.

Common side effects
Headache, diarrhoea, stomach pain or discomfort, nausea, gas, and constipation.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver disease, osteoporosis, low magnesium or vitamin B12 levels, or allergies to acid-reducing medicines. Long-term use may require medical monitoring and can increase the risk of certain infections, low magnesium or vitamin B12, and bone fractures. Seek medical advice for difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, or persistent diarrhoea. Inform the doctor about all other medicines being taken, as interactions are possible.
