What is it used for?
Diclofenac injection is used for short-term relief of moderate to severe pain and inflammation, such as muscle, joint, or other acute pain. It is usually given when an injectable painkiller is needed.

How does it work?
It reduces the production of substances called prostaglandins that cause pain, swelling and inflammation.

How to take/use it
This injection must be administered by a healthcare professional. The dose, frequency and treatment duration should be decided by the prescriber. Do not self-inject or use it for longer than prescribed.

Common side effects
Pain at the injection site, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, stomach pain, diarrhoea, headache and dizziness.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is a history of stomach ulcer or bleeding, asthma or allergy to painkillers, heart disease, high blood pressure, kidney or liver problems. Avoid taking it with other NSAID painkillers unless advised. Seek urgent medical help for black stools, vomiting blood, severe stomach pain, breathing difficulty, facial swelling, chest pain or a severe skin rash. It should generally be avoided during the last three months of pregnancy unless specifically prescribed.
