What is it used for?
Diltiazem is used to lower high blood pressure, prevent or relieve chest pain due to angina, and control certain abnormal heart rhythms or a fast heartbeat.

How does it work?
It relaxes blood vessels and slows the heart rate, helping the heart pump with less effort and improving blood flow.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same times each day. Take with or without food consistently. Do not stop treatment or change the dose without medical advice. Do not crush or chew the tablet unless specifically instructed.

Common side effects
Dizziness, headache, flushing, constipation, nausea, tiredness, ankle or leg swelling, and a slow heartbeat may occur.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision if there is low blood pressure, a slow heartbeat, heart block, heart failure, or liver or kidney disease. Tell the doctor about all medicines being used, especially beta-blockers, digoxin, and other heart or blood-pressure medicines. Avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice unless a doctor or pharmacist confirms it is safe. Seek urgent medical help for fainting, severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, or a very slow or irregular heartbeat.
