What is it used for?
Doxycycline is an antibiotic used to treat a range of bacterial infections. Lactic acid bacillus is included to help support healthy gut bacteria during antibiotic treatment. It does not treat viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
Doxycycline stops susceptible bacteria from making proteins needed for their growth. Lactic acid bacillus is a probiotic that helps maintain the balance of beneficial bacteria in the intestine.

How to take/use it
Take only as prescribed by the doctor and complete the prescribed course. Swallow with plenty of water while sitting or standing, and do not lie down immediately after taking it. Avoid taking it at the same time as antacids or mineral supplements containing aluminium, magnesium, calcium or iron; ask a doctor or pharmacist about suitable spacing.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, headache and increased sensitivity to sunlight. Mild bloating may occur due to the probiotic.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about allergies to tetracycline antibiotics, pregnancy, breastfeeding, liver problems or a history of swallowing or food-pipe problems. Use in children under 8 years is generally avoided unless specifically prescribed. Limit strong sunlight and use sun protection. Seek medical advice for severe or persistent diarrhoea, difficulty swallowing, severe headache, vision changes or signs of an allergic reaction.
