What is it used for?
Duloxetine is a prescription medicine used to treat depression and generalised anxiety disorder. It is also used for some types of nerve pain, including diabetic nerve pain, and certain long-lasting muscle or bone pain conditions.

How does it work?
It increases the activity of serotonin and noradrenaline, natural chemical messengers in the brain that help regulate mood and reduce the perception of pain.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and swallow the delayed-release capsule whole with water. Do not crush or chew it. It may be taken with or without food. Do not stop treatment suddenly unless advised by a doctor.

Common side effects
Nausea, dry mouth, headache, dizziness, sleepiness or difficulty sleeping, constipation, reduced appetite, increased sweating and sexual problems.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver or kidney disease, glaucoma, bipolar disorder, seizures, bleeding problems, high blood pressure or pregnancy. Avoid heavy alcohol use. Duloxetine can interact with antidepressants, MAO inhibitors, blood thinners and other medicines that affect serotonin. Seek urgent medical help for suicidal thoughts, severe agitation, unusual bleeding, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or symptoms such as fever, confusion, muscle stiffness and diarrhoea.
