What is it used for?
Propranolol is a beta-blocker used for high blood pressure, certain heart rhythm problems and other heart-related conditions. It may also be prescribed to prevent migraine attacks, control physical symptoms of anxiety, or reduce tremors, depending on medical advice.

How does it work?
It slows the heart rate and reduces the force with which the heart pumps. This lowers the workload on the heart and can reduce some physical symptoms such as a fast heartbeat and tremor.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed. Take doses at the same time each day and follow the instructions on the prescription or package. Do not stop treatment suddenly without medical advice.

Common side effects
Tiredness, dizziness, cold hands or feet, slow heartbeat, sleep disturbances and nausea may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor before use if there is asthma or wheezing, a very slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, heart failure, diabetes or circulation problems. Propranolol can mask some warning signs of low blood sugar. Avoid stopping it suddenly, and seek medical advice if breathing difficulty, fainting or an unusually slow heartbeat occurs.
