What is it used for?
This combination is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes.

How does it work?
Empagliflozin helps the kidneys remove excess glucose through urine. Linagliptin helps the body release more insulin after meals and reduces the release of glucose from the liver.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole and maintain adequate fluid intake unless a doctor has advised fluid restriction. Do not change or stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Increased urination, genital yeast infections, urinary tract infections, thirst, dehydration, dizziness, and symptoms of low blood sugar—especially when used with insulin or sulfonylureas. Nasal congestion or a cough may also occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney disease, low blood pressure, frequent infections, pancreatitis, or heart problems. Seek urgent medical help for nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, unusual tiredness, or difficulty breathing, as these may indicate diabetic ketoacidosis even if blood sugar is not very high. Report severe genital infection, allergic reactions, or persistent severe abdominal pain. Extra medical advice may be needed during serious illness, prolonged fasting, dehydration, or before surgery. Discuss use during pregnancy or breastfeeding with a doctor.
