What is it used for?
Enoxaparin is an anticoagulant used to prevent and treat blood clots in the veins, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). It is also used to reduce the risk of clots during hospitalisation or around certain surgeries.

How does it work?
It reduces the blood’s ability to form harmful clots by increasing the action of antithrombin, mainly against clotting factor Xa.

How to take/use it
This medicine is usually given as an injection under the skin, as prescribed. It should not be injected into a muscle. Follow the prescribed dose and schedule, do not stop it or change the dose without medical advice, and do not rub the injection site after use.

Common side effects
Bruising, pain or redness at the injection site, bleeding, and anaemia may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any bleeding disorder, stomach ulcer, kidney disease, liver disease, recent surgery, or planned surgery or dental procedure. Inform the doctor about all medicines being taken, especially other blood thinners, aspirin, ibuprofen, or similar painkillers. Seek urgent medical help for heavy or unusual bleeding, black stools, vomiting blood, severe headache, sudden weakness, or breathing difficulty.
