What is it used for?
This combination is used to reduce excess fluid retention (swelling or oedema), especially in people with heart failure. By removing extra salt and water, it can help reduce the workload on the heart and improve symptoms such as swelling and breathlessness.

How does it work?
Torsemide helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water through urine. Eplerenone blocks the effect of aldosterone, a hormone that can cause salt and water retention, while helping protect the heart in certain heart conditions.

How to take/use it
Take by mouth exactly as prescribed. It may increase urination, so follow the timing advised by the doctor. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Regular blood tests may be needed.

Common side effects
Increased urination, dizziness, headache, dehydration, low blood pressure, changes in blood potassium or sodium levels, and changes in kidney function.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision. Potassium and kidney function should be monitored, as eplerenone can cause dangerously high potassium levels and torsemide can cause dehydration or electrolyte changes. Avoid potassium supplements and potassium-containing salt substitutes unless specifically advised. Tell the doctor about kidney disease, low blood pressure, dehydration, or all other medicines being taken. Seek medical help for severe weakness, fainting, irregular heartbeat, or very little urine.
