What is it used for?
Hydroxyzine is mainly used to relieve itching and other symptoms caused by allergies. It may also be prescribed for short-term anxiety or to cause drowsiness before a medical procedure.

How does it work?
It blocks histamine, a chemical involved in allergic reactions, helping reduce itching and allergy symptoms. It can also have a calming and sedating effect.

How to take/use it
Use only as prescribed by the doctor. Measure the liquid with an oral syringe or the supplied measuring device, not a household spoon. Shake the bottle well before use. Do not take more or use it for longer than advised.

Common side effects
Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, headache and constipation may occur.

Precautions
Avoid alcohol and activities requiring alertness, such as driving, until its effects are known. Tell the doctor about glaucoma, difficulty passing urine, breathing problems, heart rhythm problems, liver or kidney disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Seek medical help for severe drowsiness, fainting, palpitations or breathing difficulty.
