What is it used for?
Etoricoxib is used to relieve pain, swelling and stiffness caused by arthritis and other painful joint or muscle conditions. It may also be prescribed for certain short-term painful conditions, as directed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It reduces the production of substances called prostaglandins that cause pain and inflammation. It selectively blocks an enzyme called COX-2.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, with or without food. Do not take more than the prescribed amount or use it for longer than advised.

Common side effects
Indigestion, stomach pain, nausea, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, swelling of the legs or feet, and increased blood pressure.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about high blood pressure, heart disease, previous stroke, stomach ulcers or bleeding, kidney or liver disease, or an allergy to painkillers. It may increase the risk of heart attack or stroke, especially with higher doses or prolonged use. Avoid taking it with other anti-inflammatory painkillers unless advised. Do not use during pregnancy unless specifically prescribed, and seek medical advice if severe skin rash, breathing difficulty, chest pain, black stools or marked swelling occurs.
