What is it used for?
Febuxostat is used to lower high uric acid levels in people with gout and help prevent gout attacks over time. It is not meant to provide immediate relief during a sudden gout attack.

How does it work?
It blocks an enzyme called xanthine oxidase, reducing the body's production of uric acid.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with or without food. Use it regularly even when gout symptoms are not present. Do not stop or change the treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Gout flare-ups, nausea, joint pain, skin rash, and changes in liver function tests may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about heart disease, stroke, liver disease, or any previous allergy to febuxostat. Liver function may need monitoring. Seek urgent medical help for chest pain, breathing difficulty, weakness on one side, or a severe skin rash. Do not take it with azathioprine or mercaptopurine unless specifically directed by a doctor.
