What is it used for?
Used to prevent or treat iron and folic acid deficiency, including deficiency-related anaemia, when recommended by a healthcare professional.

How does it work?
Iron helps the body make haemoglobin, which carries oxygen in the blood. Folic acid supports the production of healthy red blood cells.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as directed by the doctor or pharmacist. Swallow with water. If it causes stomach upset, it may be taken with food. Avoid taking it at the same time as tea, coffee, milk, calcium supplements or antacids unless advised otherwise.

Common side effects
Nausea, stomach discomfort, constipation, diarrhoea and dark or black stools.

Precautions
Do not use without medical advice if there is iron overload, a history of serious blood disorders or an unexplained anaemia. Folic acid may mask vitamin B12 deficiency. Keep out of reach of children, as an iron overdose can be dangerous. Inform the doctor about other medicines and supplements being taken.
