What is it used for?
Ferric carboxymaltose injection is used to treat iron deficiency and iron-deficiency anaemia, especially when oral iron is not suitable, has not worked well, or iron levels need to be restored quickly.

How does it work?
It provides iron that the body uses to make haemoglobin and red blood cells. This helps replenish low iron stores and improve anaemia.

How to take/use it
This medicine is given only by a healthcare professional as an intravenous injection or infusion. The dose and number of treatments depend on iron levels, body weight and medical condition. Do not self-inject.

Common side effects
Nausea, headache, dizziness, flushing, temporary increase in blood pressure, and pain or irritation at the injection site may occur. Low phosphate levels can also occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about any previous reaction to injectable iron, iron overload, liver problems, or ongoing infection. Serious allergic reactions can rarely occur, so monitoring is required during and after administration. Avoid contact with the skin because leakage outside the vein may cause long-lasting brown discolouration. Repeated or high-dose treatment may require phosphate monitoring.
