What is it used for?
Iron sucrose is used to treat iron deficiency and iron deficiency anaemia, especially when iron tablets are not suitable, do not work well, or iron needs to be replaced under medical supervision.

How does it work?
It supplies iron to the body so it can produce haemoglobin and healthy red blood cells. This helps replenish the body's iron stores.

How to take/use it
Iron sucrose is given slowly into a vein by a doctor or nurse. The dose and number of treatments depend on the severity of iron deficiency and the medical condition. It should not be self-administered.

Common side effects
Nausea, headache, dizziness, low blood pressure, flushing, muscle cramps, and pain or irritation at the injection site may occur.

Precautions
