What is it used for?
Trimetazidine is used as an add-on treatment to relieve symptoms of stable angina (chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart) when other anti-anginal medicines are not enough or are not suitable. It is not used to treat a sudden angina attack.

How does it work?
It helps heart muscle cells use energy more efficiently when the heart has a reduced oxygen supply. This can help reduce angina symptoms.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Do not change or stop treatment without medical advice. This extended-release medicine should not be used for immediate relief of sudden chest pain; seek urgent medical help for new, worsening or persistent chest pain.

Common side effects
Dizziness, headache, stomach pain, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, weakness, and skin rash or itching may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney problems, Parkinson’s disease, tremors, stiffness, slow movements or other movement disorders. Older adults and people with reduced kidney function may need special medical supervision. Stop the medicine and seek medical advice if new tremors, unusual movements or marked difficulty walking develop. Use only under medical supervision; it is not suitable for acute angina or unstable heart-related chest pain.
