What is it used for?
Cefuroxime injection is an antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections, such as infections of the lungs, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, bones and joints, abdomen, or blood. It does not work against viral infections such as colds or flu.

How does it work?
It kills susceptible bacteria by preventing them from forming their protective cell wall.

How to take/use it
This injection is given into a vein or muscle by a doctor or nurse. The dose and treatment duration depend on the type and severity of infection and kidney function. Do not self-inject, and use it only as prescribed.

Common side effects
Pain, redness or swelling at the injection site; diarrhoea; nausea or vomiting; and skin rash.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to cefuroxime, other cephalosporin antibiotics, or certain penicillin-type antibiotics. Tell the doctor about kidney disease, previous antibiotic-related severe diarrhoea, or any medicine being used. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, severe rash, or severe or persistent diarrhoea.
