What is it used for?
Frusemide is used to remove excess fluid from the body, helping reduce swelling caused by conditions such as heart failure or some kidney and liver problems. It may also be prescribed to help control high blood pressure.

How does it work?
It helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water from the body through urine. This reduces fluid build-up and may lower blood pressure.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with water. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. It may increase urination, so follow the timing instructions given by the doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects
Increased urination, thirst, dizziness, headache, nausea, low blood pressure and dehydration. Changes in body salts, such as low potassium, may also occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor if there is kidney or liver disease, low blood pressure, dehydration, diabetes, gout or an existing electrolyte imbalance. Rise slowly if feeling dizzy. Seek medical advice for severe weakness, fainting, confusion, very dry mouth or markedly reduced urine. Regular blood tests may be needed to monitor kidney function and body salts.
