What is it used for?
Furosemide injection is used to remove excess fluid from the body (oedema), including fluid buildup related to heart failure, kidney disease or liver disease. It may also be used for urgent fluid buildup in the lungs and, in some cases, to help control high blood pressure.

How does it work?
It is a loop diuretic, or “water tablet” medicine. It helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water through the urine, reducing fluid buildup and sometimes lowering blood pressure.

How to take/use it
This injection is given into a vein or muscle by a doctor or other trained healthcare professional. The dose and treatment schedule depend on the medical condition and response to treatment. It should not be self-administered.

Common side effects
Increased urination, dizziness, low blood pressure, dehydration, weakness, nausea and changes in blood salts such as low potassium or sodium.

Precautions
Medical monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, hydration and blood salts may be needed. Tell the healthcare professional about kidney or liver disease, dehydration, gout, diabetes, difficulty passing urine or hearing problems. Seek urgent medical help for fainting, severe weakness, confusion, very little urine or new hearing or ringing problems.
