What is it used for?
Fluconazole is an antifungal medicine used to treat fungal infections, especially Candida infections of the mouth, throat, vagina, skin or other parts of the body. It may also be prescribed for certain other serious fungal infections.

How does it work?
It blocks the production of an essential part of the fungal cell membrane, stopping the growth and spread of the fungus.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the recommended course, even if symptoms improve. It may usually be taken with or without food. Do not take it for a suspected fungal infection without medical advice.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhoea and skin rash may occur. Temporary changes in liver blood tests can also occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver or kidney disease, heart rhythm problems, or a previous allergy to antifungal medicines. Fluconazole can interact with many medicines, so disclose all prescription medicines, over-the-counter products and supplements. Seek medical help for severe rash, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, unusual tiredness, or a fast or irregular heartbeat. Use during pregnancy only when specifically advised by a doctor.
