What is it used for?
Gabapentin is used to treat nerve pain, such as burning, tingling or shooting pain caused by nerve damage. It is also used with other medicines to help control certain types of seizures in epilepsy.

How does it work?
It reduces excessive electrical activity in the brain and decreases the abnormal nerve signals that cause nerve pain and seizures.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, at the same times each day, with or without food. Swallow the capsule or tablet with water. Do not stop taking it suddenly unless advised by a doctor.

Common side effects
Sleepiness, dizziness, tiredness, unsteadiness, blurred or double vision, swelling of the hands or feet, and nausea.

Precautions
Avoid driving or operating machinery until the effects are known. Alcohol and other medicines that cause sleepiness may increase drowsiness and breathing problems. Inform the doctor about kidney disease, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. Seek medical help for severe rash, facial swelling, breathing difficulty, unusual mood changes, or thoughts of self-harm.
