What is it used for?
Gabapentin is used to relieve nerve pain, such as burning or shooting pain caused by nerve damage. It is also used along with other medicines to help control certain types of seizures (epilepsy).

How does it work?
It reduces abnormal nerve signalling in the brain and nervous system, which can help reduce nerve pain and seizures.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, with or without food, and swallow it with water. Do not stop taking it suddenly without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the instructions provided by the doctor or pharmacist.

Common side effects
Sleepiness, dizziness, tiredness, unsteadiness, blurred or double vision, swelling of the hands or feet, and nausea.

Precautions
Gabapentin may cause drowsiness or dizziness; avoid driving or operating machinery until its effects are known. Avoid or limit alcohol. Inform the doctor about kidney problems, breathing problems, or use of opioid pain medicines or other sedatives. Seek medical help for facial or throat swelling, breathing difficulty, severe skin rash, or new or worsening depression or suicidal thoughts.
