What is it used for?
This combination is used mainly to relieve nerve pain, which may feel like burning, tingling, electric-shock sensations or shooting pain. It should be used only when prescribed by a healthcare professional.

How does it work?
Gabapentin helps reduce excessive nerve signalling, while nortriptyline changes the activity of certain chemical messengers involved in pain processing. Together, they help reduce abnormal nerve pain.

How to take/use it
Take by mouth exactly as prescribed, with or without food. Take it at the same time each day if advised. Do not stop it suddenly or change the dose without medical advice. It may cause drowsiness, so avoid driving until its effects are known.

Common side effects
Drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness, dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, nausea and difficulty concentrating may occur.

Precautions
Avoid alcohol and other medicines that cause sleepiness unless approved by a doctor. Tell the doctor about kidney problems, heart disease, glaucoma, difficulty passing urine, breathing problems, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Seek medical help for severe allergic symptoms, extreme sleepiness, breathing difficulty or new suicidal thoughts. Older adults may have a higher risk of dizziness and falls.
