What is it used for?
Gliclazide is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes.

How does it work?
It helps the pancreas release more insulin. Insulin lowers blood sugar by helping glucose move from the blood into the body's cells.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually with or just before a meal. Take it at the same time each day, do not skip meals, and do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Monitor blood sugar as recommended.

Common side effects
Low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia), nausea, indigestion, stomach discomfort, constipation or diarrhoea, and weight gain may occur.

Precautions
The risk of low blood sugar is higher if meals are skipped, food intake is reduced, alcohol is consumed, or during strenuous or prolonged exercise. Symptoms may include sweating, shaking, hunger, dizziness, confusion or weakness. Use only under medical supervision if there is kidney or liver disease. Tell the doctor about all medicines being taken, and seek advice before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
