What is it used for?
Gliclazide is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes.

How does it work?
It belongs to a group of medicines called sulfonylureas. It helps the pancreas release more insulin, which lowers blood sugar.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually with a meal. Take it at the same time each day and do not skip meals. If a dose is missed, follow the prescribed instructions and do not take an extra dose unless advised by a doctor.

Common side effects
Low blood sugar, which may cause sweating, shaking, hunger, dizziness or confusion; nausea, stomach upset and weight gain.

Precautions
Check blood sugar as advised. The risk of low blood sugar is higher if meals are skipped, during excessive exercise, with alcohol, or when other diabetes medicines are used. Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems and all other medicines being taken. Seek medical help for severe or persistent symptoms of low blood sugar.
