What is it used for?
Glimepiride is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How does it work?
It helps the pancreas release more insulin. Insulin helps move sugar from the blood into the body's cells, lowering blood sugar levels.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually with a meal, and do not skip meals after taking it. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Follow the recommended diet, exercise plan and blood sugar monitoring schedule.

Common side effects
Low blood sugar, dizziness, headache, nausea and weight gain. Low blood sugar may cause sweating, shaking, hunger, weakness, confusion or a fast heartbeat.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision, especially with kidney or liver problems, in older adults, or if meals are irregular. Avoid or limit alcohol, as it may increase the risk of low blood sugar. Carry a quick source of sugar if advised. Tell the doctor if pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding. Seek urgent medical help for severe or repeated low blood sugar, fainting or difficulty breathing.
