What is it used for?
This medicine is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when one medicine alone is not enough.

How does it work?
Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and improves the body's response to insulin. Glimepiride helps the pancreas release more insulin, which lowers blood sugar.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, usually with or after food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the sustained-release tablet whole; do not crush or chew it. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, gas, vomiting, headache, dizziness and low blood sugar. Low blood sugar may cause sweating, shaking, hunger, weakness or confusion.

Precautions
Monitor blood sugar as advised. Take care with activities such as driving if dizziness or low blood sugar occurs. Inform the doctor about kidney or liver problems, heavy alcohol use, dehydration, serious infection, or planned surgery or contrast-dye scans. Seek urgent medical help for severe weakness, breathing difficulty, persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, or unusual sleepiness. Inform the doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding.
