What is it used for?
Used with diet and exercise to control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when one medicine alone is not enough.

How does it work?
Metformin reduces the amount of glucose made by the liver and helps the body use insulin better. Glimepiride helps the pancreas release more insulin, which lowers blood sugar.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, usually with food. Swallow the sustained-release tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Take regular meals and monitor blood sugar as advised.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, gas and reduced appetite may occur, especially when starting treatment. Low blood sugar may cause sweating, shakiness, dizziness, hunger or confusion. Weight gain can occur.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision if there is kidney or liver disease, heavy alcohol use, dehydration, or a serious infection. The risk of low blood sugar is higher if meals are skipped, alcohol is consumed, or other diabetes medicines are used. Seek urgent medical help for severe or persistent weakness, breathing difficulty, unusual sleepiness or severe stomach discomfort. Inform the doctor before surgery, certain scans using contrast dye, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
