What is it used for?
Used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How does it work?
Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and improves the body's response to insulin. Glimepiride helps the pancreas release more insulin, lowering blood sugar.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, preferably with food, and take it at the same time each day. Do not skip meals, change the dose, or stop treatment without medical advice. Monitor blood sugar as advised.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, indigestion, and reduced appetite may occur. Low blood sugar and weight gain can occur, especially with glimepiride.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision if there is kidney or liver disease, heart failure, or heavy alcohol use. The risk of low blood sugar is higher if meals are skipped, alcohol is consumed, or other diabetes medicines are used. Tell the doctor before surgery or certain X-ray scans using contrast dye. Seek urgent medical help for severe weakness, breathing difficulty, persistent vomiting, confusion, or very low blood sugar.
