What is it used for?
Used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when one medicine alone is not enough.

How does it work?
Metformin reduces the amount of sugar made by the liver and helps the body use insulin better. Glimepiride helps the pancreas release more insulin, which lowers blood sugar.

How to take/use it
Take exactly as prescribed, usually with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the sustained-release tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew it. Do not skip meals, take an extra dose, or stop treatment without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the prescriber’s instructions and do not double the next dose.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach upset, abdominal discomfort, headache and metallic taste. Low blood sugar may cause sweating, shakiness, dizziness, hunger, weakness or confusion. Weight gain can occur.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision if there is kidney or liver disease, severe infection, dehydration, heart failure or heavy alcohol use. Kidney function may need monitoring. Inform the doctor before surgery or an X-ray/scan using an injected contrast dye. Seek urgent help for severe weakness, breathing difficulty, persistent vomiting, severe drowsiness or unusual muscle pain. Tell the doctor if pregnant or breastfeeding. Do not drive or operate machinery if blood sugar is low.
