What is it used for?
This combination is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when one medicine alone is not enough. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How does it work?
Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and improves the body's response to insulin. Pioglitazone improves insulin sensitivity, while glimepiride helps the pancreas release more insulin.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually with food, and do not skip meals. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. Monitor blood sugar as recommended.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, headache, weight gain, swelling of the legs or ankles, and low blood sugar. Low blood sugar may cause sweating, shakiness, dizziness, hunger, or confusion.

Precautions
Inform the doctor about kidney or liver problems, heart failure, swelling, or a history of bladder cancer. Kidney function should be checked during treatment. Avoid excessive alcohol. Seek urgent medical help for severe weakness, breathing difficulty, persistent vomiting, severe abdominal pain, or unusual sleepiness. Seek help urgently for symptoms of very low blood sugar. Tell the doctor before surgery or certain scans using contrast dye.
