What is it used for?
Glimepiride 2 mg + Metformin 500 mg is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes when one medicine alone is not enough.

How does it work?
Glimepiride helps the pancreas release more insulin. Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and helps the body use insulin more effectively.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually with food, and swallow it with water. Take it at the same time each day. Do not skip meals, change the dose, or stop treatment without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the prescriber’s instructions; do not take an extra dose.

Common side effects
Low blood sugar, nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, vomiting, loss of appetite, metallic taste, and headache. Glimepiride may cause weight gain.

Precautions
Monitor blood sugar as advised. Low blood sugar is more likely if meals are skipped, alcohol is consumed, or strenuous exercise is undertaken; symptoms may include sweating, shakiness, dizziness, hunger, and confusion. Tell the doctor about kidney, liver, heart, or breathing problems, heavy alcohol use, or vitamin B12 deficiency. Kidney function should be checked regularly. Seek urgent medical help for severe weakness, breathing difficulty, unusual sleepiness, or persistent vomiting. Inform the doctor before surgery or certain medical scans involving contrast dye.
