What is it used for?
This combination is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes.

How does it work?
Metformin lowers glucose production by the liver and helps the body use insulin better. Glimepiride helps the pancreas release more insulin, which lowers blood sugar.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the sustained-release tablet whole; do not crush or chew it. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, gas, loss of appetite, headache, and weight gain may occur. Low blood sugar can cause sweating, shakiness, dizziness, hunger, or confusion.

Precautions
Use only under medical supervision, especially with kidney or liver problems, heavy alcohol use, or a history of heart failure. Monitor blood sugar regularly and carry a quick source of sugar in case of low blood sugar. Tell the doctor before surgery, serious illness, or an imaging test using contrast dye. Long-term metformin use may reduce vitamin B12 levels. Seek urgent medical help for severe weakness, breathing difficulty, persistent vomiting, or unusual sleepiness.
