What is it used for?
Povidone iodine 7.5% is a topical antiseptic used to help prevent or reduce infection in minor cuts, wounds and affected skin. It may also be used for skin cleansing before certain procedures, according to the product label.

How does it work?
It releases iodine, which kills or reduces many types of bacteria, viruses and fungi on the skin.

How to take/use it
For external use only. Apply to clean, affected skin as directed on the product label or by a healthcare professional. Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth and other mucous membranes. Do not swallow.

Common side effects
Mild skin irritation, redness, itching or dryness may occur. Stop use and seek medical help if severe irritation, swelling or difficulty breathing develops.

Precautions
Do not use if allergic to povidone iodine or iodine-containing products. Avoid applying to large areas, deep wounds or severe burns unless advised by a healthcare professional. Prolonged or repeated use may affect thyroid function, especially in infants, people with thyroid disorders, or those with kidney problems. Seek medical advice during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and for wounds that are deep, extensive or not healing.
