What is it used for?
Povidone iodine 5% is an antiseptic used to reduce germs on the skin and around minor cuts, grazes and wounds. Use only for the purpose stated on the product label, as the appropriate use can vary by formulation.

How does it work?
It releases iodine, which kills or reduces many types of bacteria, viruses and fungi on the treated area.

How to take/use it
Use only on the affected area and follow the instructions on the product label. Do not swallow it. Do not use in the eyes or internally unless the product is specifically labelled for that use.

Common side effects
Mild stinging, dryness, redness or skin irritation may occur. Stop using it and seek medical advice if severe irritation, swelling or an allergic reaction develops.

Precautions
Avoid use if allergic to povidone iodine or iodine-containing products. Do not apply repeatedly over large areas or for prolonged periods without medical advice, especially in people with thyroid disorders. Keep away from children and avoid contact with clothing, as it may stain.
