What is it used for?
Cefpodoxime is an antibiotic used to treat certain bacterial infections, including infections of the throat, ears, lungs, urinary tract and skin. It does not work against viral infections such as common colds or flu.

How does it work?
It is a cephalosporin antibiotic that stops susceptible bacteria from forming their protective cell wall, causing the bacteria to die.

How to take/use it
Take it only as prescribed and complete the full course, even if symptoms improve. Disperse the tablet in water as directed on the product label and drink it immediately. Do not share leftover antibiotics with others.

Common side effects
Diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain and headache. Mild rash may also occur.

Precautions
Do not use it if there has been a serious allergy to cefpodoxime, cephalosporins or other beta-lactam antibiotics, unless advised by a doctor. Tell the doctor about kidney problems, previous antibiotic-related diarrhoea, or any medicine being taken. Seek medical help for breathing difficulty, swelling, severe skin reactions, or severe or persistent diarrhoea.
