What is it used for?
Isosorbide mononitrate is used to prevent angina (chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart). It helps reduce the frequency of angina attacks but is not usually used to treat sudden chest pain.

How does it work?
It widens the blood vessels, helping more blood reach the heart and reducing the heart’s workload.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and follow the instructions on the medicine label. Do not take extra doses for sudden chest pain. Do not stop it suddenly without medical advice.

Common side effects
Headache, dizziness, flushing, nausea, weakness and low blood pressure.

Precautions
Do not use with sildenafil, tadalafil, vardenafil or other erectile dysfunction medicines, or with riociguat, unless specifically advised by a doctor. Use caution if there is low blood pressure, dehydration or a history of fainting. Alcohol may worsen dizziness and low blood pressure. Seek urgent medical help for severe or worsening chest pain, fainting or difficulty breathing.
