What is it used for?
Itraconazole is an antifungal medicine used to treat fungal infections, including infections of the skin, nails, mouth, genital area and other parts of the body when prescribed by a doctor.

How does it work?
It stops fungi from making ergosterol, a substance they need to build and maintain their cell membranes. This helps stop fungal growth and clear the infection.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed and complete the recommended course, even if symptoms improve. Follow the product instructions about taking it with food or on an empty stomach, and swallow oral forms as directed. Do not take extra doses if one is missed without medical advice.

Common side effects
Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness and skin rash may occur.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver disease, heart failure, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and any medicines being taken, as itraconazole can interact with many medicines. Seek medical help for yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, severe rash, breathing difficulty, swelling, or unusual shortness of breath. Use only under medical supervision if there is a history of liver or heart problems.
