What is it used for?
This medicine is used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How does it work?
Sitagliptin helps the body release more insulin after meals and reduces signals that raise blood sugar. Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and helps the body use insulin more effectively.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as prescribed, usually with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the tablet whole unless advised otherwise. Do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the prescriber’s instructions and do not double the next dose.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, gas, vomiting, headache and a reduced appetite may occur. Low blood sugar is more likely when used with insulin or certain other diabetes medicines.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about kidney or liver problems, heart failure, pancreatitis, heavy alcohol use, or if an operation or contrast-dye scan is planned. Kidney function may need checking before and during treatment. Seek urgent medical help for severe or persistent abdominal pain, breathing difficulty, extreme weakness, or unusual sleepiness. Monitor blood sugar as advised.
