What is it used for?
Used with diet and exercise to help control high blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used to treat type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.

How does it work?
Sitagliptin helps the body release insulin when blood sugar is high and reduces the release of hormones that raise blood sugar. Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and helps the body use insulin better.

How to take/use it
Take only as prescribed, usually with food to reduce stomach upset. Take it at the same time each day and do not change the dose or stop treatment without medical advice. If a dose is missed, follow the prescriber’s instructions and do not double the next dose.

Common side effects
Nausea, diarrhoea, stomach discomfort, indigestion, headache, and a metallic taste may occur. Low blood sugar is more likely when used with insulin or sulfonylurea medicines.

Precautions
Kidney function should be checked regularly, as the dose may need adjustment. Tell the doctor about liver or kidney disease, heavy alcohol use, heart failure, or planned surgery or contrast-dye tests. Seek medical help for severe or persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, extreme weakness, breathing difficulty, or unusual sleepiness, as these may indicate serious reactions. Report symptoms of low blood sugar such as sweating, shaking, dizziness, or confusion.
