What is it used for?
Lansoprazole is used to reduce excess stomach acid and relieve acidity, heartburn and acid reflux. It may also be prescribed for stomach or duodenal ulcers and other acid-related conditions.

How does it work?
It is a proton pump inhibitor that reduces the amount of acid produced in the stomach. This helps relieve symptoms and allows acid-related irritation or ulcers to heal.

How to take/use it
Take it exactly as directed by the doctor or stated on the label. Place the orally disintegrating tablet on the tongue and allow it to dissolve before swallowing. It is usually taken before food; follow the prescribed instructions. Do not chew or crush it.

Common side effects
Headache, nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, stomach pain and gas.

Precautions
Tell the doctor about liver disease, pregnancy or breastfeeding, or if taking other medicines. Seek medical advice for difficulty swallowing, vomiting blood, black stools, unexplained weight loss or persistent symptoms. Long-term use should be monitored by a doctor, as it may affect vitamin B12, magnesium or bone health and may increase the risk of certain infections.
